SUMMARY:Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW): Sulawesi Region
DESCRIPTION:Indonesia and Germany have collaborated for over 30 years in the energy sector\, supporting renewable energy development through technical and financial aid\, expanding transmission\, creating green jobs\, and involving civil society. This partnership aligns with Indonesia’s goals of achieving Indonesia Emas 2045 and Net Zero Emissions by 2060 by providing tailored energy solutions. The Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW)\, launched in 2022 under the CASE project by Bappenas\, serves as a key platform for stakeholders to promote sustainable energy. ISEW 2022 drew 2\,284 participants\, while the 2023 event\, co-hosted by Bappenas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and part of the GIZ Energy Programme\, attracted 5\,465 attendees and over 90 speakers\, emphasizing unity toward a decarbonized energy system. \nThis year\, ISEW is going local to energy-critical regions in Indonesia\, namely ISEW Goes Regional. ISEW Goes Regional (ISEWGR) was launched to localize Indonesia’s sustainable energy transition\, beginning with Sulawesi\, a region rich in renewable resources but facing infrastructure and access challenges. Organized by the GIZ Energy Programme and MEMR\, ISEWGR engages local governments\, energy companies\, academia\, and communities to address region-specific issues and link national dialogue to local contexts. Supported by German financial and technical cooperation\, including projects like KfW’s Green Corridor and GIZ’s renewable planning\, Sulawesi also benefits from initiatives to shift away from coal power under the JETP. The 2025 two-day event in Makassar features a regional dialogue for general stakeholders and a Campus Connect for academic involvement\, aiming to empower local clean energy solutions aligned with MEMR’s priorities under the theme “Transforming Power\, Empowering Communities.”

SUMMARY:Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW): East Kalimantan Region
DESCRIPTION:The Indonesian and German governments have engaged in fruitful cooperation in the energy sector for over 30 years\, providing technical and financial assistance for various renewable energy initiatives. This partnership covers areas such as expanding renewable energy\, transmission grid development\, green jobs and skills advancement\, and inclusive dialogue with civil society organisations at both national and regional levels. Indonesia is currently undergoing a significant transformation to meet its energy and climate targets\, transitioning towards a green economy in line with the Vision Indonesia Emas 2045 and its Net Zero Emissions goal by 2060. To support this national agenda\, bilateral cooperation between Germany and Indonesia continues to deliver adaptive\, solution-oriented support aligned with the country’s evolving energy landscape and needs. \nUnder this cooperation framework\, the Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) was established as a multi-stakeholder forum that brings together government officials\, professionals\, private sector actors\, academics\, and non-state actors to focus on sustainable energy issues. Since its launch in 2022\, ISEW has grown into a flagship event under the German-Indonesia Energy Cooperation Hub\, jointly organised by Bappenas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR)\, providing a dynamic platform for dialogue\, innovation\, and collective action within the German-Indonesian Energy Cooperation. Recognising the regional diversity and complexity of Indonesia’s energy transition\, the ISEW Goes Regional (ISEWGR) initiative was introduced\, with events planned in Sulawesi and East Kalimantan in 2025. These regional events aim to localise the momentum of ISEW by engaging local governments\, energy companies\, academic institutions\, civil society\, and communities to address area-specific energy challenges and link national dialogue with local context\, particularly focusing on just energy transition and economic diversification in coal regions.
